The recently endowed Farley Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (FCEI) is dedicated to evolving engineering beyond the application of the sciences to the creation of businesses that capitalize on innovations. We will empower engineers with the skills to be successful entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs. Our mission is to help our students understand what is involved in starting a business based on the innovation they have developed. Innovation that never reaches its markets never realizes its potential.

Innovation, by its nature, requires many different disciplines to work closely together as an integrated team. The Farley Center intends to serve as a facilitator of the different academic disciplines to create environments where innovation and entrepreneurship can flourish within McCormick and Northwestern.

The Farley Center is facilitating the next generation of interdisciplinary learning here at Northwestern. FCEI is bringing together faculty from a number of schools to develop courses where students experience the entire innovation/business life cycle from ideation to prototyping and business plan development. A partnership between the McCormick School, the Feinberg School of Medicine, the Kellogg Graduate School of Business, and the Law School is launching the first course entitled Medical Innovation.

The Farley Center is committed to bringing "outside the box" thinking to McCormick to foster a culture where innovation and entrepreneurship can flourish.

The Farley Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation focuses on four key areas:
